Solar pricing in regional Victoria is more honest than the national ads. After federal STCs, a typical 6.6kW rooftop system on a straightforward colorbond roof in Echuca or Shepparton still guides in the mid-to-high thousands — often $5,500–$8,500 before a Solar Victoria rebate or loan is applied. Bigger arrays cost more, but the extra panels are usually the cheapest part of a whole-home plan.
What moves the number is not the wattage on the brochure. It is the roof: multiple pitches, tile, long cable runs, a tired switchboard, or a house that will add an EV, induction and a heat pump in the next two years. We would rather size once for those loads than come back to expand a 6.6kW that was never going to keep up.
As a working range for Northern Victoria in 2026: 6.6kW after STCs from around $6,500 on a simple roof; 11kW and 13.3kW sit higher but carry heat pumps and summer cooling much more comfortably; 17kW is the conversation for all-electric homes and small farms. Add a 16kWh GoodWe ESA and many households land in the $12,000–$18,000 band after STCs, before state finance.
NSW border homes (Moama, Deniliquin, Finley) can often structure those packages with the $15,000 interest-free loan. Some single-phase 6.6kW + 16kWh jobs are designed at $0 upfront when the loan is approved. Victorian homes can use third-party finance for $0 at install (you apply, repayments apply) and still stack Solar Victoria and STCs on the cash path.
